Royal Arsenal

The Royal Arsenal was founded in 1671 and was once Britain's largest and most important centre for manufacturing military equipment and munitions. It was closed in 1967, ending nearly 300 years of continuous use as a strategic defence facility. Now, in partnership with the London Development Agency and Greenwich Council, the Berkeley Group is bringing this historic site back to life by creating a thriving mix of homes, leisure facilities, shops and offices.

Berkeley Homes' current development at Royal Arsenal will eventually consist of 4,200 newly-built and converted homes. Alongside these new homes will be 350,000 sq ft of leisure, commercial and retail facilities, including restaurants and bars, forming an extension to the town centre.

Woolwich Town Centre and Royal Arsenal will be connected by a series of public spaces, ending with the large and multi-purpose plaza, comprising of a lively mix of cafes and restaurants.

A number of exciting new transport initiatives are in place that will transform Woolwich and Royal Arsenal. Woolwich is set to become a key transport centre, with increased accessibility to the City, Docklands, East London, City Airport and the wider Thames Gateway region.
